Concert Orchestra

Concert Orchestra is YSDP’s first full symphonic experience for advancing strings students combined with winds, brass, and percussion. The members are primarily advanced musicians in grades 8 – 12. The repertoire consists of high-level arrangements of standard classical literature and periodically includes movie and pop scores.

Woodwind and brass students gain new confidence playing in a limited section and become comfortable as “soloists” in the orchestra. String players must be adept at shifting to higher positions and have an expressive vibrato. Weekly rehearsals develop ensemble skills, musical phrasing, and camaraderie among the musicians.

Rehearses: Thursdays, 5:15 – 6:45 PM, McAninch Arts Center (MAC)

The McAninch Arts Center (MAC) is located just a few traffic lights away from our previous rehearsal venue at Arrowhead, now at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd, Glen Ellyn.

Performance: Each season will include three performances held at Wentz Concert Hall.

Wentz Concert Hall is located near the corner of Chicago Avenue and Washington Street within the North Central College campus at 171 E. Chicago Ave, Naperville.

The Concert Orchestra repertoire includes works such as Mozart’s March Militaire Francaise, Shostakovich’s Waltz No. 2, Vivaldi’s “Spring” from The Four Seasons, Saint-Saens’ Bacchanale from Samson and Delilah, Mozart’s Symphony No. 25, and Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, Hofeldt’s Centennial Overture, and Tchaikovsky’s Overture 1812.
