About Us
We are the musicians of the Youth Symphony of DuPage Sinfonietta, Philharmonia, Concert and Symphony Orchestras. Youth Symphony of DuPage is dedicated to bringing advanced ensemble training and performance opportunities to talented young musicians from DuPage County and the surrounding Chicagoland area. Our Programs
YSDP is unique among many youth orchestras by offering diverse repertoire that is both challenging and rewarding to young musicians and their audience. YSDP offers four orchestras and a robust chamber music program opportunities for our talented musicians. Rehearsals are on Mondays at Arrowhead in Wheaton. Symphony Orchestra
Symphony Orchestra is the most advanced full orchestra offered by YSDP, which uses wind, brass, and percussion instruments in all of its performances. Musicians in this ensemble are mostly advanced high school-age students, who either have completed or are currently working on movements of a standard concerto. Symphony Orchestra performs standard masterpieces such as Beethoven Symphony No.5, Brahms Symphony No.1, Tchaikovsky Symphony No.5, Dvorak “New World” Symphony, Prokofiev Classical Symphony, and Schubert “Unfinished” Symphony.
Concert Orchestra
Concert Orchestra is YSDP's first full symphony orchestra with advancing strings students, winds, brass, and percussion. Their repertoire is drawn from the standard classical literature and include works such as Mozart's Overture to "The Marriage of Figaro", Hofeldt's Centennial Overture, and Tchaikovsky's "Overture 1812. Anyone who has been studying privately for at least two years with a private lesson teacher is eligible to audition.
Philharmonia Strings
Philharmonia Strings members are talented younger musicians who have at least 2 years on their instrument with private instruction. The ensemble provides advanced training and ensemble experience for younger musicians playing with proficiency for advanced performance. Philharmonia Strings members are primarily advanced middle school and high school age musicians. Their repertoire is drawn from the standard classical literature..
Sinfonietta Strings
Sinfonietta Strings members are talented younger musicians who have at least 2 years on their instrument with private instruction. The ensemble provides advanced training and ensemble experience for younger musicians playing with proficiency for advanced performance. Anyone who has been studying privately for at least two years with a private lesson teacher is eligible to audition.
Woodwind and Brass Chamber Ensemble
Woodwind and Brass Chamber Ensemble is open to Youth Symphony of DuPage Symphony and Concert Orchestras students. The chamber ensembles provide many diverse music and performance opportunities lead by a staff coach. The ensemble requires an audition. Ensemble coach will review your audition video so interested parties should register for the Chamber Ensemble during the Audition Registration.
String Chamber Ensemble
String Chamber Ensemble is open to Youth Symphony of DuPage Symphony and Concert Orchestras students. The chamber ensembles provide many diverse music and performance opportunities lead by a staff coach. The ensemble requires an audition. Ensemble coach will review your audition video so interested parties should register for the Chamber Ensemble during the Audition Registration.
